Hi, so I want you to imagine a scenario or honestly speaking,
it might not be difficult for you to imagine.
It's probably something you've experienced, but basically
you're in class, test scores are being shared like your results
are being shared and you see your score.
Maybe you had 95 / 100 in your math exam.
Sounds good. Also, some people be very, very
happy at that. And so someone asks you, oh,
what do you do? Score?
It's just normal people, you know, people, people would want
to exchange scores and things like that.
See how everyone is doing. Find out just that does not
matter to them. Anyway, someone asks you and
you're excited to tell them, oh, I had 95.
And you're like, oh, wow, you did well, I had 96.
And I'm like, oh, nice. We will pass by your mind just
like, OK, OK. And another person comes and
that person tells you, oh, I had 98 and an A person 97.
And it's like there's 9698 maybe you now see 194, you know, and
by the time you look at it, it's like you're in the bottom 10% of
the cars. So you had $0.95, which is such
a good score, but in compared to others just seems like OK.
Then there's another scenario in this one, you had 62 / 100 and
you just sit and you're like, I'm big, I'm messed up, I'm
messed up bad and you don't understand anybody at score.
Again, somebody eventually asks you and they open up to you
like, or maybe no, maybe they didn't even open up to you.
Just tell them grudging like I had 62 and you expect that.
Oh, they were talking like, oh, sorry, you can do better next
time. I know it's funny.
They exclaim and they're like, how did you do it?
Like, bro, I had 46, I'd even give give up to 50% and that
person's like rule. I had 54 and things like that.
And before you might have been feeling bad, but now there's
there's a tendency or there might have been a time when that
kind of thing would have just made you feel a bit better.
See, to be very honest, in a lot of cases, like let's be real, I
don't know about you, but me you is that kind of thing happened.
Like you made me feel much better.
Like we're so we're all in this together.
You know, High School Musical style, like I'm not a learning
you just like I did. Well, like even if if they if
they even ask you at home, like why is your school saluted?
See, I was there in the classroom, that kind of thing.
So you probably had that kind of experience or if you haven't
like have narrated this thing. So I just want you to keep that
in mind and then I want to go ahead and tell you that we have
a problem. We have a problem.
And when I say we, I mean you and me, both of us, we have a
problem. Honestly, it's not just both of
us. Every human being in the world
has that problem. It's that problem where in every
human beings life there are there are moments when they've
done bad things, they've done wrong things.
One person could have killed, and that person could have
kidnapped somebody, and that person could have committed
rape, and that person could have lied and that person could have
committed fraud. I'm trying to think of as many
things as possible. And that person could have
gossiped. The different things, the
different things. At some point, everybody has
done something that's wrong, done something that's morally
wrong, something that we ought not to do, something that's
naturally we would not want out in the open.
Usually that's how you know this is something that you wouldn't
just want out in the open. Like when you think about it,
would I want everyone to know that I killed this person?
No Would I want everyone to know that I lied or would I be proud
to say that I lied? No Would I be proud to say that
I gossip about this person to their face?
You know, it's probably something I would want and look
like. Most times, these are things
that, you know, maybe you stole something, stealing, sneeze
around the common ones. You know, you wouldn't want it
out in the open, that kind of thing.
Like most times, especially at the moment when you do it or
fresh off of doing that thing, we all have those things that
we've done that we are not proud of that or that, OK, some people
are proud of them. Actually in cases where maybe
person has really share their conscience, but generally there
are, there are there are things that every one of us have done
that normally would not to do. Like every single human being,
no human being who you find that has never told, like they tell
you that they've never told a lie, then that's a lie.
That's a lie already. So that's really one of the
slits. If they've not lied, they would
have said something. Maybe if I abuse somebody, maybe
you've said a, an insulting word towards someone.
And then here's even the funnier part.
Maybe you've not done everything.
Maybe all you've done is just thought it's you're still in
this category. You're still in this category.
Point is, we have a sin problem. We have a sin problem.
Like it doesn't have to be until you carry out the action.
Jesus was speaking on the sermon in the mounts.
So I didn't it was not just the disciples were speaking to
different people. And in Chapter 7 he says if you
as much as look at the woman who has really you've committed
adultery in your heart. So some things already wrong
from just the inception from just the thought of it.
You you think your mind. Oh, I just wish this person
would die. I just wish this person would
slip and fall into that gutter. Things like that.
Everyone at some point has slipped into this, and so we all
have that same problem. And this is what a man named
Paul, close to 2000 years ago, was trying to explain to a
church in Rome. He was an apostle.
Apostle Paul tries to explain to the Roman church.
He's making a case, trying to get them to understand that all
men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
See, we must understand that the God that we serve, the God of
this world is a holy God. He's a holy God.
He stands in a class of his own. I want to take you to a story or
an event that happens in the book of Isaiah chapter 6
specifically. Now for a bit of context, Isaiah
was a prophet. A prophet is basically a
spokesperson of God, a person who speaks on behalf of God to
his people or to the people. And so he was already a prophet
of God. He was already serving God.
He was ready, you know, following God's ways and things
like that. And then in chapter 6, he has a
vision where he sees got very dramatic.
He sees God, you know, doesn't see God like face to face, but
like sees the throne of God. You know God is too glorious for
you to even look face to face to face with you have angels flying
around his altar and whatnot around his throne.
And Isaiah says sometimes as I says, woe is me, woe is me, for
I am a man of unclean lips dwelling amongst people of
unclean lips. So before that time, Isaiah
didn't think that. He didn't think woe is me.
So the same way how you might have had 85 and you first, oh,
that's good. But by the time you see somebody
else in your class who has 89, oh, so you realize I'm not all
that. But it's just that in this case,
it's like 100 times more worse. It's like the disparity is 100
times more pronounced. It's more intense.
Isaiah thought it was OK before, but all of a sudden he stands
before God or he's in a vision before God and he sees how
unclean he is. This is a prophet.
Like if we're trying to convert this to, you know, the whole
scenario with the exams and things like that, it's like he's
this 85% of 100 students and all of a sudden he sees someone who
scores 120%. Like he can't even because
normally it's an exam that's over 100 too.
You won't even fathom getting 120%.
So you see someone and then a person has 120% and you're
struggling to comprehend it. It was like that with Isaiah.
He was so he was so shocked. He was in awe of the glory and
the holiness of God. There's like the angels say
holy, holy, holy. It's like, I think it was their
way of like when they were, you know, translating the Bible to
English was their way of saying holy, holier, holiest.
Like so like this God is holy, He's holier than you.
He is the holiest being. That's how holy this God is,
right? So it doesn't matter whether
what you might have done compared to somebody else might
not look that much. So for example, you had 62 and
compared to somebody else who had 46, you look good.
But when you are confronted with the one who is 100 out of 100,
it looks meager. It does not match up.
It basically does not match up. So it doesn't matter if you're
in 99. So of course, compared to
everybody else, they're either on your level or below you.
But then you meet 100 and you're 100.
You're still below the scale. And This is why every single
person, every single person has seen that function of good.
Nobody's perfect. Nobody can match up to the scale
or to the standard that God has, as everyone has the same
problem. And then Paul then tells them in
Romans 6, verse 23 that the wages of sin is dead.
He uses the word wages intentionally.
Wages are what you gets after working.
Wages are what you deserve. So he's saying that what what
you deserve as a result of the scene that you've exit, that
you've exhibited at some points is death.
I'm telling you basically that you deserved death.
You deserve death. But there was a pot moments.
There was a pot moments he says in same verse Romans 6, verse
23, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus is
eternal life in Christ Jesus. I'm not just talking about oh
life here on it. What I'm saying even after you
might die physically, even after your you might die physically,
you still live. You still live on.
In fact, in a more glorious life or emphasis is not even on that.
Now point is you are saved from the consequence of that sin in
Christ Jesus. You didn't ask yourself who is
Christ? He is the Son of God.
He is the Son of God. So essentially, if you believe
in this man Christ, if you believe in the Son of God, John
3 verse 16, for God to love the word that he sent his only Son
that ever believes in him shall not perish, would have
everlasting life. If you believe in him normally
you deserved death, but if you believe in Him, you are saved
from the consequences of sin, which is death.
Now I'm giving a bit of time to like just unpack all of that.
You see them in that same Romans 3.
You see the 20 verse 24 and 25 saying that because God is just,
you have to understand that our God is just God.
He's a very just good. And so the same way how if a
person steals 10,000 naira from you, as much as you want to be a
loving person, you're not just going to allow OK, no 10,000 so
small they steal $1,000,000 from you as much as you're a loving
person. Such a person has to be
punished, whether it's or they have to do something, whether
it's that they repay the money back, you didn't pay the repay
back. There's some collateral they
might have to collect or they save their jail time.
It doesn't mean I know a loving person, it's just just it's fair
essentially the same how God is just in fact, he's one who put
in US that sense of justice topic for next episode, actually
next episode going to try and answer a question.
I'll leave it to guess what the question is anyway.
So because he's just, he's not just going to he loves you.
Make no mistake, our God is also a loving God, so he loves you
good and fine, but at the same time he's trust, so he knows
they are deserving of it and God's wrath must be satisfied.
God's wrath. Make no mistake, don't let
anybody ever trick you or deceive you.
God has a wrath. We see it in Romans chapter 1.
So he has a rat and that rat must be satisfied.
That rat must be poured out on someone.
So instead of that rat being poured out on you, he offers
Christ as a propitiation for your sins, for my sins, for the
world's sins. And that's why John 3 verse 16
again tells that whoever believes in Christ, whoever
believes in Christ's, shall be saved.
So the sins, the consequences that were supposed to be poured
out on you were poured out on Christ on the cross.
That's the beauty of what happened at Golgotha.
You were poured out on Christ, on Christ, on Christ.
This, my friend, is the gospel. This is you and Gillian, This is
the good news that normally you are deserving of death.
You are deserving of death. You normally ought to have died.
You should have been separated eternally from God, but instead
his own Son took your place. And so all that you've done, you
are doing or you even would do. Christ died for that very thing.
And at that point, you, you have to pause and just ask yourself,
like, are you saying that oh, I can continue to do or to live my
life the way I've been living before, maybe even deep in sin,
or maybe you've even been light and sin.
You've not been deep in sin. You just can I continue living
my life? No.
In fact, our poster Paul also answers this question in Romans
60, says, shall we continue in seeing that grace may abound?
God forbid. So make no mistake, this message
that I give to you is not a license for you to continue in
that. But I also tell you that you're
being saved will not be dependent or will never be
dependent on your ability to live a clean life.
It's not good people, morally upright people that make heaven,
it's people that believe in Jesus Christ.
You're being saved will always be predicated on doubts and not
your actions for granted. If really you believe in Jesus
Christ, it will show in your actions.
It will show in your actions. Make no mistake, your fate
produces works. But that's the topic for another
day. Point is this, it doesn't matter
whether you have a 99 or whether you have a zero.
It doesn't matter whether you're killed or you just thought
something bad about somebody. You both don't meet up to 100.
You both don't meet up to 100. So we all have that problem, but
there's a solution. There's a solution, and that
solution is in Christ is in Christ.
All you need to do is believe. I'm sure you're thinking, oh,
I've been struggling with him for so long.
What if I believe and eventually I can't deal with these issues?
God is not asking you to deal with your issues.
He's not asking. He's asking me to believe in
him. And so many times people forget
that. Like he heard his message and
people think, oh, the gospel is an invitation to some sort of
self righteousness, which is wrong.
That he literally, the gospel is literally there because you
cannot be righteous by yourself. Like if men could be
self-righteous, there will be no need for the gospel.
But because we cannot be self-righteous, that is why the
gospel isn't it. That's the very reason why it's
in it, because we have that same problem.
So the gospel is not inviting you to, you know, strive for
self righteousness and things like that.
So maybe you're worried, like, how would I do it?
You know, he's asking to believe.
And when you believe, you receive the Spirit of God,
right? You receive the life of God in
you and he helps you. This same grace that I'm telling
you is the same grace that teaches you to now to deny
ungodliness. So the gospel doesn't just save
you from the consequences of sin, it gives you the power to
live above it. But more than that's, one day it
will take us to a world where sin does not exist.
You Angelian, this is the gospel, so I will wrapped up
here. I don't want this episode to be
long. I hope this stirs something
within you. Maybe we've heard this before.
That's good. I hope that you believe it.
Maybe you already believe it. That's even better.
I hope that you allow it to affect your life.
And if it's already affecting your life, beautiful.
I pray that God keeps and preserves you in that way or in
that path. And maybe you've heard it
before, but you don't believe it.
This is me urging you. You might have thought so many
things like I've like, you might have so many questions.
Maybe you have questions. And really one of the things
I'll try to do in the coming episodes is to try and answer
some burning questions that you might have.
Or maybe you've seen things, maybe you've had an experience,
or maybe you just feel like, oh, how should I either?
This is the right part. I'm asking you to just believe.
Just give it a shot and see what God can do.
Like just maybe, and maybe you're not convinced, like Lord,
this is actually the right way. Send me a sign, whatever it is
that you need to see, just mutter those words, right?
Like, OK, God, if you're real, show me.
God, if you're real, prove it. I'm urging you to just believe
this message. I'm urging you with all my
heart, with all that. So they need to believe this
message because it's a life giving message, right?
It produces life, produces life. And maybe you've heard it
before, but you believe it, but you're still struggling at
things like that. I want you to know that your
salvation is not dependent on your actions.
Never will be, never will be. So just strive, continue to
struggle to yeah, I'm using the word struggle intentionally.
So you get the idea that it's not going to be easy, but
continue to struggle. And by the help of God, by the
help of his Spirit within you, you will come out victorious.
So yeah, that's a wrap for the episode.
